This is the migration season for gray whale on the west coast of North America. We all know that gray whale make one of the longest migrations compared to any other mammal on the earth. Every year, gray whales swim over 10,000 miles roundtrip between nursery lagoons of Mexico and feeding ground in the Arctic. Mother whales are arriving to give birth and the first of the males are making their way north. Soon the lagoon will be filling with the newborns since the birthing season reaches its peak.

Laguna San Ignacio in Baja California Sur is considered as one of the beautiful places on the earth and a perfect place for whales to breed. In the late 1980’s, Mitsubishi proposed to established a major salt works in that area. For economic reasons, the Mexican Government inclined to approve the salt work by Mitsubishi.

A determined 5-year campaign drew thousands of donors that supported an international effort which was implemented by a partnership with many organizations. Famous musicians and movie joined stars with local activists to stop the works as well as to bring international attention to the plight of gray whales. Because of the movement Mitsubishi declared to withdrew its plans.

In 2010, the veterans of the campaign gathered at Laguna San Ignacio to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the victory. The children of the local community were taken out on their first whale-watching expedition which is an activity that provides the winter livelihood for their families. The celebration group had campaigners such as Jared Blumenfeld who serves environment and Joel Reynolds of NRDC, how still works on the behalf on the marine lives every day.

Patricia Martinez, one of the conservation leaders in Baja California, also joined in the celebration. She had a great contribution in saving the beautiful Lagoon.

If you’re someone like Peter Buck then you’d definitely headed south with likeminded alt-rock buddies and spend some good times with tequila soaked music in the Mexican Territory of Todos Santos.

When Peter Buck had to dissolve from the band he did the same thing. He became a part of the first annual Todos Santos Music Festival and raisin hell with town’s laidback locals and colorful expat community. But don’t forget, he is Peter Buck, so he also worked to raise money for a charity that helps the children Magic Village near Baja California.

After a year later the plan is pretty much same just better. In 2012, Todos Santos Music Festival was held over three weekends in January with performances three nights a week from Thursday to Saturday. Historic Hotel California again became the part of another historic musical event. Grand finale took place in town’s traditional plaza on eve of the closing night.

Every show was covered by Buck even eccentric English singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock and American roots-rockers Chuck Prophet and Kevn Kenney. Organizers have planned this year’s Todos Santos Music Festival again over three weekends.

Show will start from 10th January and last to 26th January. New Travel Warning by US Government, Protest by local Authorities

vebnar : December 15, 2012 6:19 pm : Recent

In a recent statement, United States Government has announced travel warning for Mexico especially for night. According this announcement, American citizens must travel with caution during night in Mexico. Mexico’s Northern State of Baja Californian Government has raised their voices against this new policy. Federal legislator from Baja and the mayor of Tijuana joined in this protest.

A federal congressman and member of Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party, Fernando Castro Trenti worries that this new statement by the Government will prevent American citizens from visiting Baja. He believes that there’s no way this new statement of government going to help any visitor rather it’ll decrease the huge amount of tourists every year joined from all across United States. “What they’re hoping to accomplish is avoid the flight of capital to Mexican tourism destinations such as Baja California,” Trenti stated.

The main aim of this new statement is to provide increase level of security to the visitors. Every year thousands of visitors visit here and most of them came from United States. They’ve faced several security related incidents before. So the Government is trying to put a new effort to decrease their harassment and make their travel more secure.

But Baja Government and several other officials opposed the decision. The statement doesn’t value the efforts that have been made to reach the current levels of security. Baja is accomplished as one of the most tourist friendly spots in whole U.S. The local authority had to work hard to achieve this honor. But after this statement all of their effort has went in vein.

Tourism is playing the most important role in Baja California’s economy. If the tourists are discouraged by this statement then it’ll put a very influence in their economy.

Mexico’s Best Wine Destination

vebnar : August 19, 2012 11:24 am : Recent

Mexico is well known to the people for its amazing tequila, but it may be a secret to some people that Mexico has a thriving wine destination named Baja California, in short Baja. Some people mistakes to think that Baja is the place on the West Coast of US, but indeed, it is an area in Mexico. Because of the Mediterranean climate, Baja is the perfect place for producing the libation. Mexico’s 90 percent of the wine comes from this region.

Mexico is indeed the oldest wine-producing region in America. Since the 16th century when Spaniards comes to the country with vine clippings, Mexico is producing wine. The wine of Baja is rarely exported outside the Mexico – which means you will have to make a trip to the Mexico to sample Baja’s wine for yourself.

If you consider visiting Baja California, it would be great to explore the areas. In my opinion, the great way to do that is to take road trip. You can travel Baja in many ways; however, some of my suggested itineraries include Ruta Del Vino, The Baja Gold Coast and The Path of La Rumorosa. Believe me, you will enjoy to watch the natural beauties while going across these routes.

Baja California hosts “Fiesta de la Vendimia” in every August to celebrate the year’s harvest. The event lives for about a month and the best wines of Baja are found during the events. Additionally, there are music, art and a rodeo. Today is the last day of this year’s event. The event began on 2nd August.

Many different experiences can be had in Baja California. Gourmet restaurants, boutique hotels, markets, indigenous communities and local market all help to add to this rich wine destination. Some top wineries include Adobe Guadalupe, Casa Madero, L.A Cetto and Casa de Pierda.

Always Shop Around before You Buy Mexican Car Insurance!

vebnar : January 9, 2012 2:34 pm : Recent

Senor Mex says: While the point that’s being made here is pretty obvious, it bears repeating. You should always shop around a little before you buy Mexican car insurance. Some folks are in such a big hurry to get down to Mexico that they don’t even want to spend five lousy minutes checking out the available options. Others head straight to the border and buy their Mexican Car Insurance there, even though the border is basically the worst place to buy this type of coverage. You have to realize that it’s cheap and easy to compare Mexican car insurance policies online. Why wouldn’t you do it, especially if it would save you a whole lot of money?

Caesar salad done right: tableside at Steak 38 Cafe

vebnar : January 2, 2012 2:46 pm : Recent

CERTAIN MENU items make me sad. Take the Caesar salad, for instance. The contemporary Caesar salad is a depressing thing indeed. You can find them anywhere and they’re generally lousy. When I see one listed on a menu – usually hovering somewhere near the bottom, making its lame pitch to add grilled chicken or buffalo shrimp – it’s too often a tip-off as to what sort of banal, unimpressive restaurant I’m sitting in. I can immediately feel a sigh forming.

Undocumented Status, No Bar To Big Dreams

vebnar : December 31, 2011 3:00 pm : Recent

Tell Me More continues its series “In Limbo,” which focuses on the complicated experiences of immigrants caught between being in the United States legally and illegally.

Even though Maria Luna’s parents are U.S. residents, she is in limbo. That’s because her mother drove to Mexico to deliver Maria and leave her there.

“I happened to be born on New Year’s Day, and my grandmother who owned a house in Mexicali, Mexico — where I was born — was celebrating with her family. And when she found out what my mother had done, she immediately came to my rescue and brought me over to the United States at just three days old. So she basically saved my life within the first 72 hours of my birth,” Luna told Tell Me More host Michel Martin.

Luna grew up on the West Coast in the care of her grandmother, believing all the while that the woman was her mother. It was not until she was 10 years old and her grandmother died that she met her mother, who took her to northern California.

“When I met my mother, I didn’t know I was undocumented,” said Luna. “I just thought that I had done something wrong, that I had entered a different family, and I wasn’t wanted.”

She described a life of abuse while living with her mother; and to cope with it, she lost herself in school work. “I dedicated myself to my schooling, and I felt worthy, and my dignity was returned in school, because I was valued based on my merit and my drive.”

Luna became a straight-A student. But because she wasn’t U.S.-born, she wasn’t entitled to all of the things that straight-A students would benefit from, namely financial aid to pursue higher education.

Teachers and friends who were aware of her scholastic strength stepped in to help her. Some even tried to adopt her, but her mother wouldn’t allow it. She managed to go to college anyway and graduated last year.

While in school, she became aware of a cause she would advocate for fiercely — a path to citizenship called the Dream (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) Act. It was proposed in 2000 to allow kids like Luna – those brought to the U.S. at a young age – to stay in the United States as long as they went to college or served in the U.S. military. Congress would not pass the legislation however.

Luna even lobbied for the Dream Act in California. Though she’s in the country illegally, she feels native to it in heart: “I am as American as any other American can be, minus a weekend. I’ve lived here all my life. I consider myself a Californian.”

Buying Mexican Insurance The Easy Way!

vebnar : December 28, 2011 3:10 pm : Recent

You don’t have to deal with a lot of time, hassle or expense when buying Mexican insurance. There are more options available than simply purchasing coverage at the border. It used to be that the border was the logical place to buy Mexican auto insurance, however that has totally changed. These days, the best place to buy Mexico car insurance is on the Internet. For one thing, you won’t have to deal with any lines. As long as you buy your Mexican insurance from a reputable provider, the process should be as smooth as can be. You’ll also save considerable amounts of money by eschewing the border in favor of the Internet. Learn a few additional tips for having an easy time when buying Mexican auto insurance below.

Figure Out what You Need

Before you start shopping online for Mexico car insurance, you should make sure that you know which vehicle you’ll be taking down to Mexico. You’re going to have to provide that information when you order your policy. You should also decide whether you’re going to buy full coverage or liability only insurance. In the case of the latter, you’ll be covering your legal obligations. However, you won’t have any Mexican insurance coverage for your own vehicle, so you could still be left holding a huge bill.

Have a Valid Credit Card
You can’t expect to buy virtually anything online without a valid credit card. Most sites also accept check cards as long as they have a Visa or MasterCard logo on them. If you don’t have a credit card, you probably won’t be able to buy Mexican auto insurance online. You should check to see if someone you know could buy it for you, and then you could pay them back. It would be worth it to go through that process instead of buying it at the border. Keep in mind that a major credit card will also offer protection against fraud.

Rely on Quotes
Finally, the easiest way to streamline the process of purchasing Mexico car insurance is by using quotes. You shouldn’t just take a Mexican insurance provider’s word that they have the most affordable policies. It’s easy for someone to make such a claim, but you should always do the research to make sure that it’s true. Quotes are easy to come by, and you won’t have to pay a dime for them either. They allow you to scope out the scene so that you can find the best deal on Mexican auto insurance.

Mexican Auto Insurance and Better Business Bureau Ratings!

vebnar : December 21, 2011 3:28 pm : Recent

I used to think that Better Business Bureau ratings didn’t really matter. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that they definitely do. A few years ago, I bought Mexican auto insurance from a company that had a very poor rating with the BBB. I didn’t even bother to check and see what their rating was. I ended up paying way more than I should have for subpar coverage. On top of that, I got burned later when I filed a claim and was left hanging. Later, I found out that they had a hideous rating and bad reviews with the BBB.

The Fleet Underway Baja Rally (Fubar) completed

vebnar : December 9, 2011 2:11 pm : Recent

The two have combined since the first boater put his first boat on water. Thirty three power boat Captains and their crews, left Long Beach on a cruise of dreams in mid-November, with the goal of cruising to La Paz Mexico. The thirty three vessels embarked on the 3rd Fubar (Fleet Underway to Baja Rally), a powerboat cruise down the coast of Baja. The goal: La Paz, Baja California Sur, stopping at several different Baja ports and anchorages while en route.

The boats left from Long Beach and several other ports on November 6, 2011 for the initial destination: Ensenada, Mexico. For some boats and their crews, it was the first time for a long distance trip. For several boats, the trip was the third Fubar, for all it was the culmination of a long preparation for the vessel and the crew.

The first Fubar trip was the brainchild of Bruce Kessler, who eight years ago implemented the planning of the Baja powerboat cruise down the Baja coast. With the backing of the Del Rey and San Diego Yacht Clubs, the cruise had 49 vessels participate. The boats and their crews came back from the cruise with raving reviews of the ports, anchorages and people they encountered. That enthusiasm led to the 2009 and the 2011 cruises. The goal was for a fleet of boats to venture south and, in a sense, have safety in numbers.

Car Insurance for Mexico is for Vehicles from Outside of Mexico!

vebnar : December 9, 2011 2:06 pm : Recent

Senor Mex says: This post is absolutely correct about the fact that Car Insurance for Mexico is strictly designed for vehicles that are registered from outside of Mexico. It is meant for people who are traveling through Mexico and don’t have regular insurance policies. You can’t use this type of coverage for a vehicle that has Mexican plates. It won’t work. If you do that and are involved in an accident, the cops will treat the situation as if you have no Car Insurance for Mexico coverage at all. That means that you could end up in jail. Make sure that the car you’re buying Car Insurance for Mexico for is registered outside of Mexico. You certainly don’t want to run into any trouble when enjoying a vacation.
